World Bank investment banker to bolster Standard Bank Group's equities division
Standard Bank Group has appointed Marcel Mballa-Ekobena as East Africa Head of Equity Research at SBG Securities. This is a further move by
Standard Bank Group to strengthen itsequity research franchise.
Marc Ter Mors, Global Head of Equity Research, SBG Securities, says that Mballa-Ekobena joins the group with in-depth experience in equity coverage
across both emerging and developed markets. Mballa-Ekobena is based in the USA.
Prior to his latest appointment by Standard Bank Group, Mballa-Ekobena held the position of Portfolio Officer at the World Bank's International
Finance Corporation (IFC), where he was responsible for private equity investments in Latin America.
Prior to the IFC, Mballa-Ekobena covered the French and Belgian banking and insurance sectors for HSBC, and then led the expansion of financial
sector research coverage into Sub-Saharan Africa covering West African and South African banks.
Mballa-Ekobena, who hails from Cameroon, holds an MSc Degree in International Securities & Investment Banking from Reading University in the UK;
a post-graduate diploma in Business Administration and an honours degree in European Business both from Landshut in Germany and Anglia Ruskin University.
Says Ter Mors: "We are pleased to have such an experienced and highly qualified person join our team. Standard Bank has painstakingly built its
on-the-ground expertise in many African markets and I believe Marcel will make a strong contribution to our equity markets team.
"The East Africa region provides attractive growth prospects for our equity business and we plan to roll-out market and company coverage across the region
from the Nairobi office."
Mballa-Ekobena will relocate from Washington DC to Nairobi in August.
