Sponsorships are a valuable part of Standard Bank Group's social responsibility and marketing communication strategies. Sponsorships are essential in building the brand and creating relevance in markets where Standard Bank Group operates, and they provide a platform for us to engage with our customers.

Development is key to our deciding on what sponsorships we undertake. Currently, we look at initiatives that support community upliftment, the arts and sport.

Sponsorships vary from country to country and are often decided on by teams in each country in which we operate, as relevant to their marketing objectives .

  • Past

Standard Bank hosts the launch of the PAST All from One campaign to promote African unity, collaboration, tolerance and conservation.

Standard Bank is a proud sponsor of the Paleontological Scientific Trust (PAST), a Johannesburg-based NGO that since 1994 has promoted research, education and public awareness of Africa’s rich fossil heritage and its status as the birthplace of humankind.

    1. Inspire scientific curiosity among children.
    2. Promote social cohesion and environmental conservation.
    3. Build African pride and identity by promoting the idea that all human beings, including the species we share our planet with are 99.9% alike.

Standard Bank became a founding partner of PAST 18 years ago and has since been recognised as the Trust’s principal corporate sponsor. As a result of this partnership, Standard Bank has helped PAST make progress in the fields of research, education and the awareness of the role that understanding our heritage plays in building a sustainable future.

Standard Bank’s funding has also assisted PAST with their Walking Tall School’s project which serves as a foundational educational programme. The programme has reached over 1 million learners and educators since 2002 and continues to function as a mobile science workshop offered to secondary schools.

Standard Bank has hosted the annual keynote lecture series which has featured some of the world’s leading palaeontologists since its inception in 2003 as part of their involvement in raising public awareness with PAST. In 2015 the lecture has been replaced by the All from One campaign.

Standard Bank is proud to support the PAST All For One campaign launching on 10 November as a pro-Africa campaign calling for unity, collaboration and tolerance in the pursuit of prosperity.

We value our relationship with PAST and believe it plays a vital role in preserving national heritage, encourages interest in the sciences and advocates for youth participation.

We trust that through this collaboration, we will afford a number of people the opportunity to understand their shared origins and help to build the spirit of tolerance in our country and the world over.

    All from One Exhibition dates: 11 November 2015 – 31 January 2016

CAF is the governing body of African Football and was founded in 1957.

CAF has various football properties in both the Men's and Women's competitions.

The premier African football tournaments staged and hosted by CAF, are the largest events on the continent and showcase African football to global and continental audiences.

The decision to partner with CAF over an eight year period was driven by Standard Bank's growing presence as a leading emerging markets bank on the African continent, and at the same time an appropriate key sponsorship as the bank has the largest banking presence in Africa.

As CAF showcases Africa's accomplishments through tournaments that attract continental and global audiences, Standard Bank is able to make meaningful connections with the communities in which we operate. The engagement through the various CAF events and tournament are the means through which Standard Bank plans to build and expand its brand awareness and positioning in Africa in the 19 countries in which we operate.

The sponsorship has different goals in each of the different countries it will reach, and the bank aims to use this footprint to build and entrench relationships, while extending networking and hospitality opportunities further into the continent.

  • Standard Bank IRONMAN
