Consumers have ranked Standard Bank South Africa the number one brand in the consumer banking category of the 2013 Sunday Times/TNS Top Brands survey.
"We are delighted to be recognised as the leading bank in South Africa and believe our success is thanks to our sustained commitment to putting our customers first," says Funeka Montjane, Standard Bank's Chief Executive: Personal and Business Banking, South Africa. The ranking is particularly significant because it represents the perception of consumers themselves.
"It is our customers - not our peers, the media or other stakeholders - that have ranked us South Africa's leading banking brand," says Jenny Pheiffer, Executive Head of Brand and Sponsorship, Standard Bank. "That is important to us, as it means we are firmly on the right track in moving our customers forward."
Standard Bank South Africa focuses on being relevant to customers by listening to them and delivering appropriate services and products that add value to their lives and are easy to use.
"Our promise to our customers is to constantly strive to help progress them through their lives and to meet their aspirations. This award bears testimony that customers recognise the value in this strategy," says Ms Pheiffer. According to the Sunday Times/TNS Top Brands survey, the final index can be thought of as the brand's standing in both the market place and in people's heads.
"The Standard Bank brand is instantly recognisable, but more importantly it's about a sustainable presence in offering opportunities, products and services that take on individual significance across all levels of society," says Ms Pheiffer.
Standard Bank is one of South Africa's oldest brands and has been an integral part of South African society for over 150 years. It is a stable, trusted South African banking brand that provides access to banking through over 600 branches, 4 000 ATMs and 4 000 AccessPoints, as well as 24/7 access through its cellphone banking, banking app and Internet banking channels.
The Top Brand award follows Standard Bank South Africa's recent SAP award earlier this year, for innovation on its SAP platform that has seen Standard Bank South Africa bringing banking services closer to the country's unbanked communities. "Standard Bank has emphasised that it has the means and the will to connect with society and contribute positively to the lives of all. We are clearly on a positive, upward trajectory and we are delighted to have been recognised with the top ranking in this reputable survey," concludes Ms Montjane.
