Standard Bank leads South African retail banking according to Top Brands survey

Consumers have ranked Standard Bank South Africa the number one brand in the consumer banking category of the 2013 Sunday Times/TNS Top Brands survey.

"We are delighted to be recognised as the leading bank in South Africa and believe our success is thanks to our sustained commitment to putting our customers first," says Funeka Montjane, Standard Bank's Chief Executive: Personal and Business Banking, South Africa. The ranking is particularly significant because it represents the perception of consumers themselves.

"It is our customers - not our peers, the media or other stakeholders - that have ranked us South Africa's leading banking brand," says Jenny Pheiffer, Executive Head of Brand and Sponsorship, Standard Bank. "That is important to us, as it means we are firmly on the right track in moving our customers forward."

According to the Sunday Times/TNS Top Brands survey, the final index can be thought of as the brand's standing in both the market place and in people's heads.

The Top Brand award follows Standard Bank South Africa's recent SAP award earlier this year, for innovation on its SAP platform that has seen Standard Bank South Africa bringing banking services closer to the country's unbanked communities.
