"Standard Bank commends every athlete that took part in this year's Standard Bank IRONMAN® 70.3 South Africa event. Special mentions must go to the category winners who set the performance benchmarks that all their fellow athletes' measure themselves against," said Jenny Pheiffer, Head of Brand and Sponsorship at Standard Bank. "This is the first year that Standard Bank has sponsored the IRONMAN® 70.3 event in Buffalo City, and we would like to thank our host city for helping to make this event a truly remarkable success."
Standard Bank Group congratulates Matt Trautman (RSA) and Jodie Swallow (UK) on their respective wins in the 2015, Standard Bank IRONMAN® 70.3 South Africa event. South Africa's Trautman was the first man home, completing the 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run in a time of 4:04:34 followed by countryman Stuart Marais (4:06:03) and Belgian Bart Aernouts (4:11:36). The U.K.'s Swallow took the ladies crown in a time of 4:30:53 followed by fellow Britons Susie Cheetham (4:41:48) and Parys Edwards (4:47:44).
Trautman's victory was his first ever Standard Bank IRONMAN® 70.3 South Africa win and follows an 11th place finish in the same event last year. Swallow commented that her victory at this year's race, her fifth 70.3 title in Buffalo City, was the toughest thanks to a tricky swim, a hot bike leg and persistent headwinds on the run. "The Standard Bank IRONMAN® 70.3 South Africa event, encapsulates all the qualities that are universally admired - grit, determination and the desire to succeed in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds. Standard Bank would therefore like to salute each of the more than 2,400 participating athletes who found the resolve to never stop moving forward," said Ms Pheiffer. "It is your ongoing dedication that has helped grow this event into one of the most successful 70.3 gatherings."
