Standard Bank Group boosts its cash equity expertise

Following the launch of SBG Securities in January 2011, Standard Bank Group is pleased to announce a number of key cash equity hires to develop international client coverage and trading from London. As Standard Bank Group continues to add emerging market cash equity product to the existing global market product suite, sales, trading and natural resource capability are key. 

In addition to the recent announcement of research and distribution hires in South Africa, the following additions to the team have been made. 

  • Dylan Pooley will join Standard Bank to head equity trading in London. Having started his career in Fleming Martin in South Africa, he has since held a number of trading roles in both Johannesburg and London. Dylan joins from Citigroup where he ran both Natural Resource and CEEMEA trading teams in recent years. His experience in building both principal and client facilitation businesses in the geographies and sectors upon which Standard Bank focuses will be key in building the Bank's cash equity presence.
  • Audrey Parker has joined the Emerging Markets sales trading team, also based in London. Audrey has covered the CEEMEA markets since 1996, having spent time at CSFB, ING and most recently at HSBC where she was Head of Sales Trading forCEEMEA. Audrey has covered accounts across UK, Europe and US in markets spanning Russia, the Middle East, C3, Turkey and Africa.
  • Jasper Crone has joined the Cash Equity sales desk based in London and will cover both Emerging Markets and Natural Resources. Jasper has 11 years experience in EMEA markets in both equity sales and buy-side investment analysis. Jasper joins from Macquarie where he held a similar role. Previously Jasper worked in New York and London for JP Morgan and began his investment career as an EM portfolio analyst at Schroders.
  • Christian Simpson has also joined the Cash Equity sales desk in London covering Emerging Markets. Christian joins the equity sales team from J.P. Morgan Cazenove where he spent two and a half years in corporate broking within equity capital markets. He covered South African corporates and was involved in a number of natural resource and Emerging Market transactions.
  • Jan van der Does de Willebois joins from Dyer & Blair in Kenya where he was Head of Equities. Jan has several years Cash Equity experience in the Sub Saharan African markets having worked in Kenya where he was involved in both the brokerage business and capital market transactions. Jan will start in London and subsequently relocate to Nigeria to cover local and international clients on Sub Saharan equities.

  • Standard Bank Group has a controlling interest in stockbrokers in Nigeria, Kenya, Turkey and South Africa. 

    Ian Carton, global head of cash equity at Standard Bank, says: "The African equity markets are growing in importance relative to some other emerging markets. Our clients demand service in all asset classes and it is important for us offer an integrated offering to both our domestic and international client base. The uniqueness of our African presence differentiates us from others and these hires, along with our research and sales teams in our local markets, will be bolstered with further hires across regions and sectors."
