Data Science graduate programme

In today’s economy, data is the new ‘oil’. It’s a critical function in our business, as we drive data-led solutions to ensure that we deliver what matters to our customer.  

Our 12-month Data Science graduate programme puts you right at the centre of this fast-moving business, with a focus on learning on-the-job, structured development and technical training. 

 

So, who are we looking for? You’ll be hugely talented, with a strong customer focus – and you’ll be obsessed with solving real customer problems by analysing data, identifying trends and building bespoke solutions. Bring all these to our graduate programme, and discover how through learning, support and unrivalled exposure, you can achieve what you set your mind to. 

Qualifying criteria   

  • Postgraduate degree in one or more of the following: Data Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering (Electrical, Chemical), Computer Science, Informatics, Business, Mathematics & Informatics, Quantitative Risk Management, or Actuarial Science
  • Must be a South African citizen.

Programme duration: 12 months

Behavioural Economics graduate programme
On this graduate programme, you’ll work across our Analytics, Digital, Product, Marketing and Channel functions to leverage behavioural insights. You’ll learn how to use these insights to help us better understand our clients and customers, so we can deliver more of what they want and need, while also shaping their behaviour.

During the programme, you’ll focus on the full spectrum of personal and business banking services and initiatives – spanning financial wellbeing, customer outcomes (such as improving savings rates and credit performance), and internal productivity.

Through a rotational structure, you’ll learn how to construct a behavioural intervention, from design to execution, while further managing and measuring key experimentations. You’ll also discover how to identify new opportunities, research the latest methods and source behavioural insights from customers.

  • Postgraduate degree in one or more of the following: Economics, Psychology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Organisational Behaviour, Decision Making, Sociology, Business Science, or Econometrics

Credit Risk graduate programme

Our Credit Risk department exists to minimise the risk of loss due to a customer defaulting, and to effectively balance risk and reward. It spans across our Consumer and High Net Worth and Business and Commercial segments, so the focus during the programme will be on both personal and business clients.

This 12-18-month programme will expose you to the full Credit Lifecycle, encompassing analytical and non-analytical tools and methodologies – which will ensure you're on the most appropriate technical and leadership development path for your career.

Through a series of rotations, you'll gain exposure to all the activities of the credit life cycle – plus comprehensive experience of our work and its impact on the organisation, our customers and the African continent. It’s an industry-leading programme, where you’ll collaborate with other functions, including IT, Finance, Marketing, Legal and Compliance, Product, so the opportunities for your career are amazing.

Qualifying criteria

  • Postgraduate degree in BSc or BCom in one or more of the following: Statistics, Pure Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Computational, or Applied Mathematics
  • Must be a South African citizen.

Programme duration: 12-18 months

Consumer Clients Relationship Banking graduate programme

The rotational programme provides maximum exposure to relationship banking within the financial services industry. In addition to keeping up to date on best practice, you collaborate cross-functionally and get the opportunity to present your insights and results to a broad range of s banking.

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Entrepreneurship, or Mathematics
  • Must be a South African citizen.

Graduate application process

Step 1: Apply online

  • Visit the Careers Portal 
  • Go to the apply tab then select my profile.​
  • If you are a first-time visitor select tell me more to create your SmartRecruiters profile.​
  • Complete the profile information or upload your LinkedIn or Indeed profile to create a SmartRecruiters profile​
  • Once your profile has been completed and you have uploaded your supporting documents  then you can apply for your preferred Early Careers Programme.

Step 2: Interviews

Once you've successfully passed the screening part of our process, we'll invite you to a video interview for the programme you've selected.​

If your application is unsuccessful for your preferred programme, but you meet the criteria for another, we'll invite you to a video interview for that programme.

Step 3: Assessments

If you're successful at the interview stage, we'll then ask you to take part in an assessment. Each assessment we run is individually linked to one of our Early Careers Programmes, but we'll be sure to give you more information on what's expected of you beforehand.

Step 4: Offer/Decline

Although we'd like to offer all the talented applicants a place, competition for spaces on our Early Career Programmes is often fierce. That's why, post assessment stage, we'll prioritise letting you know whether your application has been successful or not.
