World Aids Day

HIV/AIDS is a global challenge that every country has had to deal with. But there is hope, even in the face of the devastation that it has caused. Significant strides have been made in reducing the incidence of mother-to-child transmission and, although there is still no cure for HIV/AIDS, proper management though anti-retroviral treatment and lifestyle changes means that HIV infection is now seen as a chronic condition, and not a death sentence.

A wise person once said, “the greatest wealth is health”. Following this year’s global World AIDS day theme of ‘Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships'; we are excited that Standard Bank has partnered with The Global Fund a non-profit global organization to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. It is both our aspiration to eradicate HIV/AIDS in Africa through management of the spread of the disease. And one of the ways to achieve this is through the HER Campaign (HIV Epidemic Response: Empowering Women and Girls to end AIDS in Africa) initiative that the Bank is supporting in conjunction with The Global Fund.

As we commemorate World AIDS Day, we are unwavering in our belief that we will win this fight and end this terrible challenge to the growth of the continent that we are so proud to call home. Make taking care of your wellbeing your number one priority and contact your healthcare provider should you need support as well as information on HIV/AIDS and its treatment. #WorldAidsDay #MoreThanABank
