We are South Africa’s most valuable financial services brand
Standard Bank has been recognised as South Africa’s most valuable financial services brand and the country’s second most valuable brand overall in the 2026 Kantar BrandZ Top 30 Most Valuable South African Brands ranking.
The bank’s brand value increased by 54% to US$4.724 billion, up from US$3.066 billion in 2024, outperforming the combined growth rate of the Top 30 brands. Kantar BrandZ measures brand value by combining financial performance with consumer perceptions and demand. The ranking reflects Standard Bank’s strong client relationships, trusted reputation and relevance in supporting customers through their financial journeys.
Standard Bank South Africa CEO David Hodnett said the achievement highlights the trust and confidence clients place in the bank. He noted that Standard Bank’s focus is on helping clients achieve sustainable growth by providing support across personal, business, corporate and investment banking. This approach is guided by the bank’s purpose, Africa is our home, we drive her growth, and its Keep Growing brand narrative.
The bank continues to invest in technology, data and digital infrastructure to improve customer experiences, strengthen security and enhance service delivery. Key investments include modernised core systems, cloud technology, artificial intelligence and advanced payments capabilities designed to create more personalised and seamless client interactions.
The ranking also reflects the broader strength of Standard Bank Group. Liberty delivered a strong performance, reinforcing the Group’s integrated offering across banking, insurance, investments and asset management. According to Hodnett, the combined strength of Standard Bank and Liberty enables the Group to support clients throughout different stages of their financial lives, from everyday banking and business growth to wealth creation and financial protection.
Standard Bank’s rise in the rankings continues a five-year upward trajectory, moving from fourth place in 2021 and 2022 to second place since 2023. Over the same period, the brand’s value has more than doubled from US$2.35 billion to US$4.724 billion.
