  • Frequently asked questions
What happens after I submit my application online?
Our Talent Acquisition team will review your application. They will shortlist the candidates whose skills and experience best match the role. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the interview stage of the hiring process. If your application is unsuccessful, we will let you know by email.
    What is a competency-based interview?
A competency-based interview assesses your specific skills and past experiences. We want to understand how you handle real-world scenarios relevant to the role. This helps us evaluate your suitability for the position.
Are people with disabilities supported during the hiring process and in the workplace?
Yes. We value ability in all its forms. We have an inclusive culture and are open to accommodating special needs throughout the hiring process and in the workplace.
What kinds of assessments will I need to complete?
You may be asked to complete a case study, technical test or psychometric assessment. These assessments are role-specific and help us evaluate your technical and behavioural capabilities.
What should I expect during the final interview stage?
You will take part in a panel interview with key managers and team members. This gives us an opportunity to learn more about your experience, skills and working style. We also assess whether you are the best fit for the role and team environment. It is also your opportunity to ask questions, meet potential colleagues and gain a deeper understanding of the role, team culture and organisation.
What does the pre-employment screening process involve?
With your consent, we verify your identity, qualifications, credit record and criminal history. We also check outside business interests and confirm current employment details. Taking part in pre-employment screening does not mean that you have been selected for the role or that you will receive an offer. It is a standard part of our recruitment process.
Am I guaranteed a job offer if I reach the screening stage?
No. Reaching the screening stage does not guarantee that you will receive an offer of employment. The recruitment process is competitive, and the hiring manager will make the final decision based on the candidate whose skills, experience and suitability best match the requirements of the role.
How will I receive my official job offer?
Our Talent Acquisition team will send you a formal offer letter and employment contract. These documents will set out the key details of your new role and the terms of your employment. Your Talent Acquisition Specialist will talk you through the contract and answer any questions you may have.
What happens once I accept the job offer?
We will welcome you with an engaging onboarding experience that begins before your official start date. This will ensure you have the information, resources and support you need to prepare for your first day.
    Hints and tips for professionals
How can I make my CV stand out?
Focus on the value you have created. Instead of only listing your responsibilities, highlight specific achievements and use measurable results wherever possible. Keep your CV clear, well-structured and easy to read, using a simple layout and professional fonts.
How do I tailor my application for a specific job?
Read the job description carefully and make sure you understand the skills and experience required. Adapt your CV to highlight the parts of your experience that are most relevant to the role, using clear examples.
Why is adaptability an important skill at Standard Bank Group?
Technology, customer expectations and the world of work continue to evolve. We value people who are curious, open to learning and able to respond positively to change. When applying or interviewing, share examples of how you have learned something new, adapted your approach or worked through an unexpected challenge.
How can I prepare for teamwork questions in an interview?
Prepare examples that show how you have worked with others to achieve a shared goal. Explain the role you played, the contribution you made and the outcome the team achieved. You should also be ready to describe how you have handled different opinions or resolved disagreements constructively while maintaining strong working relationships. Consider the key impressions and messages you want the interviewer to leave with and make sure you create opportunities to communicate them during the interview.
