We provide practical exposure, on-the-job learning, coaching and mentoring and a bespoke learning and development plan to set our grads up for success and integrate them into the world of work. Graduates are exposed to various technologies including Cloud, Web, Digital and Automation on various banking platforms and channels.

CIB Technology Graduate Programme

CIB Technology is the backbone of the Corporate Banking businesses of Global Markets, Transaction Banking, Investment Banking and Real Estate. The intense, high-performance environment of Global Markets and Transaction Banking makes partnering with these areas particularly exciting. As the technology partner, the solutions we provide enable the processing of multi-million-rand transactions by these businesses. Additionally, CIB Technology empowers our business with a technology landscape that services non-retail customers which include Banks, public institutions, corporates, and asset managers to name a few and facilities various transaction types, from high frequency trading (Algorithmic trading) with low values, to low frequency trading, high value payments to complex structured products.

Our graduate programme aims to attract talent that not only displays sound technical knowledge and skills, but who can be groomed into thought leaders and trusted partners. We blend theoretical learning of hard and soft skills with practical experience. Your learning journey will be supported through several rotations, where you will be exposed to the end-to-end life lifecycle of the CIB Technology business. This includes, learning about application and technology architecture processes through the disciplines of analysis, design, development, testing and deployment, as well as being exposed to the operations, maintenance, and support processes of live production environments.

Personal and Private Banking (PPB) Technology - Cloud and Operations Graduate Programme

The Cloud graduate programme will provide the graduates with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and skills in cloud computing, preparing them for a career in the rapidly growing field of cloud technology. The program will include training, mentorship, and real-world workloads to help graduates develop their expertise and kickstart their careers in the cloud industry.

Do you use Gmail, Youtube, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, Facebook, Microsoft Office 365, LinkedIn and Netflix?. Have you ever wondered how these online services are available globally with consistent user experience?. Do you know how social media platforms and video streaming services are able to provide you with unlimited content all over the world?.

The answer to the above is "Cloud computing"; services such as Netflix, Instagram and Youtube use cloud computing power and global infrastructure availability to provide seemingly unlimited content & services 24/7 globally. The biggest cloud computing service providers in the world include Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Cloud computing is the delivery of on demand computing services over the internet to offer faster innovation, flexible resources and economies of scale.

Standard Bank has partnered with Amazon Web Services(AWS) and Microsoft Azure to be our cloud computing service providers. We need you to be part of our cloud enablement engine in Standard Bank.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of cloud infrastructure.
  • Supporting the deployment and management of cloud-based applications and services.
  • Monitoring and optimizing cloud resources to ensure performance and cost-efficiency.

Personal and Private Banking (PPB) Technology Core Banking Platform SAP Graduate Programme

SAP Platform Business Unit provides a SAP Platform support in terms of providing Application and Database availability & support to the consuming Business Units, namely Everyday Banking, Payments, BCB, CIB, SBSA Offshore. The SAP Platform also provides Security and manage access on the SAP Applications to ensure that we are Always Secure and that we meet the LAM, and PAM standards. The graduate programme assists us with upskilling the youth and absorb them onto the practical working environment.

  • Learn SAP Security & Authorization Fundamentals
  • Learn how to create users in SAP
  • Learn how to setup and design Technical and Business roles in SAP GRC

Personal and Private Banking (PPB) Technology - Information Security Graduate Programme

The Security team will provide a space where young people engage with each other and our leadership team, through peer-to-peer, conversation and experiential coaching and mentoring to support the development of critical skills needed for the Bank. The value that the PPB Information Security capability creates for Standard Bank is synonymous with operational excellence. PPB Information Security provides industry-tailored solutions, using demonstrated methodologies and tools in a consistent manner, with the goal of enabling on-going, secure, and reliable operations across the enterprise.

At the end of the programme, graduate will be able to:
Adhere to and implement the relevant technology standards developed by the wider IT Function.
Adhere to Group minimum standards for vendor selection and participate in the selection of the most appropriate vendor with required expertise.
Automate repeatable tasks, by building technical control capabilities and maturing their operational effectiveness.
Build and develop relationships across the different internal IT teams and with various stakeholders so that the business unit remains involved and aware of internal developments.
Consider various attack scenarios and identify appropriate controls, by working with architects and software engineers to specify how information security technologies should be implemented.
Continually review system operations, updating and amending processes and products to mitigate risks as identified and discovered to minimise future incidents.
Contribute inputs to the setting of reliable and realistic targets and budgets.
Design, implement and operate proactive monitoring and maintenance support activities to ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of services and underlying platforms to minimise information security incidents in accordance with the organisations risk appetite.
Develop detailed information security designs, incorporating single or already integrated systems, considering the client's expectations and deadlines, ensuring that designs are practical and align to architectural requirements, escalating any concerns to a more senior team member.
Engage, consult and influence working groups and business areas to understand the required client process for easily accessible and simple processes, that require the design and operation of single or already integrated systems, support the client in all related information security processes and products and plan accordingly.

Personal and Private Banking (PPB) Technology - Risk and Credit Enablement Graduate Programme

Credit Account Management Systems

Credit Account Management Systems is the area in Credit that deals with the credit management of accounts that we have provided Credit to. In this area we use behavioural scoring applications to determine the Credit rating/score of the customer that we have extended credit to.

Credit Collections

Credit Collections is the area in Credit that deals with the collection of outstanding money from Customers that have fallen behind on their credit facilities.

In both instances the expectation is that the graduate learner will develop the skills required to perform the key responsibilities mentioned below.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan test scenarios, acceptance tests, test criteria.
  • Identify complex, risky, positive and negative test scenarios.
  • Document all test scenarios and test cases.
  • Prepare data requirements and test data availability for test case execution.
  • Ensure that integration testing is done to ensure that the product works end-to-end.
  • Conduct regression testing.
  • Document all necessary actions in the applicable reporting/management tools, eg. JIRA, Confluence.
  • Attend applicable meetings (Inception, Iteration Planning Meeting, Grooming, retrofit session, Defect meetings, and Daily SCRUMS (Stand-ups).

Step 2: Pre-Screening Process

You'll complete a pre-screening questionnaire related to the requirements of the role. You'll then receive notification via email to complete an online Odyssey assessment once you've successfully met all the minimum requirements in accordance with the Programme requirements.

Step 3: Interviews

Once you've successfully passed the screening part of our process, we'll invite you to a video interview for the programme you've selected.​ That will be a panel interview.

If your application is unsuccessful for your preferred programme, but you meet the criteria for another, we'll invite you to a video interview for that programme.

Step 4: Assessments

Candidates that are successful at the interview stage will be asked to complete psychometric assessments. The successful candidates will then proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Final selection

The selected candidates will then be invited to an Assessment Center or a final round interview with business depending on the Programme needs.

Step 6: Offer/Decline

Although we'd like to offer all the talented applicants a place, competition for spaces on our Early Career Programmes is often fierce. That's why, post the final selection stage, we'll prioritise letting you know whether your application has been successful or not.
