Celebrating our commitment to gender equity this South African Women's Day
Gender equity is the bedrock of a thriving economy, and this South African Women's Day, we celebrate our progress in breaking down barriers and driving sustainable change across our business.
Over the past few years, we have implemented various initiatives to transform our workforce, leadership and culture, making it more inclusive for women. Here are key highlights that showcase our dedication:
- Leadership: Women now constitute 40% of the Group Board of Directors, 27.3% of the Group Leadership Council and 36.4% of all key leadership positions. This reflects our unwavering commitment to having women at the decision-making table, driving change and innovation. Learn why women make great business leaders
- Workforce: 57.2% of our total workforce are women, demonstrating a strong representation of women across all levels of the organisation. This significant presence contributes to a more balanced and dynamic work environment.
- Executive and senior management: Representation of women in these crucial roles has grown from 35.6% in 2016 to 42.2%. We are actively working to ensure more qualified women occupy positions of influence.
- Revenue-generating roles: Women now hold 38.3% of these critical positions, demonstrating their growing influence in driving business success and contributing significantly to our growth.
- Talent pipeline: 50% of new hires in 2024 were women, and nearly half of the participants in graduate development programmes between 2016 and 2025 were women. This ensures a strong pipeline of future female leaders, nurturing the next generation of talent for African businesses.
- Forbes recognition: We were ranked 18th-best employer in the world by Forbes in 2024, amongst the top 850 large multinational organisations. This is a testament to our commitment to creating a positive and supportive work environment for all.
